Holding cult status in Portland for nearly a decade, Copy has been crafting solid dance tracks that contain trace elements of disco, electro-pop, hip-hop, IDM, film music, kraut, and modern classical; yet the result is always very recognizably Copy. Songs are melodic and subtle enough that they find themselves on repeat on your headphones long after the dance party has ended. Chalice Agenda, Copy's fourth full length album for Audio Dregs, continues the tradition of deep analog bass with chunky, upbeat rhythms, coupled with interplaying synth melodies that weave together patterns that can be both wistful and baroque, or soaringly bright and driving. He has done remixes for Ratatat and Starfucker as well as numerous others, official and unofficial.
Phone Call is Bailey Winters and Johnny Zeigler, former members of Portland's disco band Strength. Their new sound came together in 2012 taking inspiration from Timberlake, Timberland, Prince and Dr. Dre to craft a more electro-funk sound. Still in love with dance music, Phone Call combines "sexually aggressive '80s disco" with heavy hip-hop beats.
Holding down the outsider-balearic-psychedelic frequencies Portland chapter, Natural Magic are Pacific Northwest gurus Mike McKinnon and Matthew Quiet. Their infamous Limited Edition parties are intimate, klipschorn powered quarterly affairs featuring one DJ, all night. Curators of sacred moments and emotions, they are irreverent crowd-pleasers with a third ear towards the sunrise.
