FES•TI•CIDE [fes-tuh-sahyd]
- noun
1. the resultant anti-fest, spawned from the collective effort of Portland, Oregon's thriving DIY music scene, that eradicates the unwanted and unnecessary elements of traditional fests.

2. a loose collection of shows comprising venues, bookers, and bands to highlight Portland's forward-thinking underground music scene with a slant towards the darker, heavier, noisier, and weirder.

3. a live music series that forgoes long lines, corporate sponsors, wristbands, expensive tickets, expensive drinks, rock stars, sunburns, speakerless full stacks, massive stages, and tests of endurance, instead putting the show-goer in control of their own destiny via a multitude of affordable and free options.

Vibrissae
Portland's Vibrissae travels between the worlds of guitar-oriented shoegaze and synth-based electronic music over the course of Somewhere Away, their debut album. Although they explore various moods, the four-piece frequently chooses to dwell on the darker side of things, with haunting vocals floating over walls of guitars and synths. According to Drowned in Sound, Vibrissae's debut release is "among the year's most impressive releases," with The Big Takeover calling Somewhere Away "a sonically accomplished and stylistically varied batch of songs." The band is the newest member of the This-a-Way Records label and collective, and they recently performed at the This-a-Way Records Fest, as well as the latest Out From the Shadows festival, and this year's Seagaze festival in Seattle.

"The trio stands out with restlessly seductive execution and an arresting sound—sweet, celestial vocals float above an introspective cache of melodic invocations." - Christina Broussard, The Portland Mercury
