There are many paths to the jeweled gates of liberation: possession, ecstasy, sacrilege, heresy. Paradox subjugates ego in the transcendent thrust toward the eternally expansive. The star studded spacecraft known as DANAVA, dispatched as it was from America's rainy northwest coast, emerged on the midnight horizon with an obscure 4 song masterpiece as a shining symbol of freedom in sound. Critics have done their best to identify this flying object with all manner of convenient but ultimately meaningless qualifiers and all have missed the mark. This is not "stoner rock," even if the pilots are probably stoned. This is not "progressive rock," for the boundless soul thwarts gentrification. This is not "space rock," although their heads are full of meteor dust their boots still waltz in the gutters of Whitechapel sin. This is not "retro rock," because tomorrow calls even as the third eye glances in reverse to hail electric ancestry. Armed to the teeth with Orgone amplification and mesmeric Luciferian aether, the technicolor demon people have risen from primordial depths to dispel all curses and sever all bonds.
Mammatus is a band from the outer reaches of Santa Cruz County, California. Taking our name from the heaviest cloud found on our home planet, Mammatus harness instruments and amplifiers with the brave intent of transforming the natural beauty and massive fury that lies in the earth into acoustic energy. The sound that results from these explorations is an aural adventure, a sonic quest through the outer reaches of the natural and spiritual worlds. Mammatus use ROCK music in an effort to communicate with our fellow humans, because it the most overwhelmingly exciting and powerful sound we have discovered so far. We ROCK because we must! There is no medium more mind melting, more body banging, more…AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRHHHHHH!!!! than pure, LOUD, HEAVY, INSANE ROCK AND ROLL! That is why we must use every resource available; push our minds and bodies to the outer limits, so that we can make sure we are exciting ourselves and others with new, creative, pure, adventurous ROCK music. We play it how we like it, really really loud, lots of ridiculous guitar leads, thick heavy headbangin' riffs, proggy groovin', and plenty of weird stuff. We're doing the best we can, honestly. We love to rock and we do it for YOU. We want you to feel this thing that we feel. Just let yourself smile as wide as you can, let your mind EXPLODE! DANCE! JUMP! SCREAM! We're exploring. Rock and roll exploring. Let's go exploring together.
Bleached out, dramatic score to America's wilds. While UK psych acts tend to journey inward in the face of madness, their US peers like to externalize thoughts crammed in their chaotic minds. So Pan, White Manna's fourth studio album in as many years, is a cathartic soundscaping of rugged northern California landscape; in particular of Humboldt Bay, where the five-piece reside, and Manila where they write. Recorded live to tape at San Francisco's Lucky Cat Recording- a real treasure trove filled with tube/ vintage mikes, pre amps, compressors, vintage API 2824 mixing console et al- it's produce by Phil Manley (Trans Am), who keeps everything fuzzy, distorted and in the red. Equal parts Stooges punk, Hawkwind space rock and Kosmiche beat, their tidal wave of noise is dense, intimidating and unforgiving, best exemplified on the title track, and angry, chaotic squall dedicated to the Greek god.
Formed in '12 by members Seve S., Kerby S., Eric H., Ian H. and rounded out by the vocals of Mr. Calvin Wright. Cosmic sounds informed by old RNR & NWOBHM
