In 2002 Salchak Orlan, Ondar Angyr - ool, Sergek Sandyk, Nachyn Choreve, Naiys Dulush (the present members of the band) - entered the Kyzyl Art College named in honor of Chyrgal - Ool. In the evenings and after the lessons participants gathered "under the stairs" and played the personally called "their music" (from the very beginning they practiced rock and jazz with the Tuvan folk songs). The first performance of the group was held on May 9, 2003, in the basement of the dormitory of the Tuva State University, and after this event, the collective has changed its name into "MOM". The leader of the group and an initiator of its inception was guitarist and vocalist Salchak Orlan.
In 2004, another legendary Tuvan music festival "Ustuu Huree" was organized, in which the fabulous represented of American jazz, the composer and multi-instrumentalist Sun Ra was invited as headliner with the support of his collective “The Arkestra”. The drummer Naiys Dulush says: "It was such a discovery for us! After that, everything has changed. " The performance of the modern jazz legend influenced almost the entire modern Tuvan musical scene, including the group "IOM". After this festival, the group has increasingly inclined to jazz-rock and funk, with some features of traditional Tuvan songs.
In 2008 the first performance of the group called "HARTYGA" (translated from Tuvinian means "Falcon") was held at the festival "Ustuu-Khuree".

Almost in September 2016 in Yekaterinburg studio ‘Octopus’ the first full-length album ‘Agitator’ was recorded, and in November of that year it has finally came out with the help of the oldest Russian labels "Soyuz". Albert KUVEZIN, the legendary vocalist and guitarist, the founder of the Tuvan rock genre took part in recording both albums. Because of cooperation with Kuvezin, the sound of the band was transferred to heavy rock with psychedelic traits.

“HARTYGA's sounds are so attractive because of their desire to create something unique, special. They do not aspire to adapt their music to the masses. They just play root songs as they hear, and magic happens. They make sincere phonation. Hartyga force you to think about the roots of the jazz-fusion, psychedelic and hard rock. And the single thought that appears in your mind if there is a possibility that these genres grew up from Tuvan folk?”
- Da Vision ( vk.com/da_vision )
“Sometimes psychedelic, sometimes jazzy, sometimes the essence of rock’n’roll the quintet are a band that needs to be on every playlist anywhere in the world even if only to pull out when you fancy a whisky to rasp a sore throat”
- Tim Whale, EmergingIndieBands, Nov 29, 2016
"It's fresh and solid talent; powerful sound rich in frequencies and soaked in overtones to squelching".
- Yuri Lnogradsky, Jazz.Ru
We are working to improve our art of playing the traditional Tuvan musical instruments and “kyrgyraa” and “hoomey” throat singing. We are aiming to combine it with the rhythms and instruments of jazz and rock. Our goal is to inject a new breath into both traditional folk music and modern tunes and rhythms of Tuva.
Arrington De Dionyso
Arrington de Dionyso uses performance as a vehicle for driving through the nameless territories held between surrealist automatism, shamanic seance, and the folk imagery of rock and roll. Arrington performs on the bass clarinet, jaw harps, and his voice with a distinctly multiphonic ability inspired by Tuvan throat-singing and the ecclesiastics of Albert Ayler and Don Van Vliet. Pushing the envelope between musicality and pure energy, between shamanic ecstasy and lunacy, he enwraps rooms with resonant sound. He tours constantly and has performed or/and recorded with notable improvisers throughout the U.S.A., Canada, Italy, France, Israel, and Japan. He presents workshops on improvising with the voice in conjunction with his travels around the world.
