The film itself:

James Westby has been making AT THE VIDEO STORE for the better part of 4 years. Hundreds of interviews, 5 original video store-related comedy songs (complete with their own music videos) with a particular focus on the people and history of Portland, Oregon— from the preponderance of dual-purpose local video shops (Great American Video & Espresso, Movie Madness, and Videorama) to the rise and fall of Hollywood Video.

The film features interviews with Gus Van Zandt, John Waters and other interesting innovators in film & music, and explores the loss (or change) of community associated with the death of the brick and mortar institution.

Equal parts documentary, musical, personal essay, and lowbrow coming -of-age-comedy, AT THE VIDEO STORE tackles rental culture
and physical media fetishism in the modern era, from the lackadaisical POV of a former Portland, Oregon video store clerk. It features pointed James Westby-penned songs performed by PNW artists Laura Viers, Liz Vice, Mo Troper & The Assumptions, Storm Large/Jim Brunberg, and more.
